  Monday, October 27

Hey GLACURH!!

We need TONS of volunteers to help make this conference a success, and we want to invite you to give back during your conference experience! We have already had about 20 people sign up, including the entire Western Illinois delegation!

One volunteer opportunity is to staff a program session. You will have the opportunity to preference which program you would like to sit in on, and you will be responsible for:
1. Assisting with technology
2. Collecting program evaluations
3. Making sure programs begin and end on time

We will also find other times for you to volunteer, including such things as checking for GLACURH nametags at the entrance to the dance or staffing a hospitality room for a little while.

We will make sure that you do not miss out on any events, but we would greatly appreciate your help! You will also receive a free VOLUNTEERS tshirt! Reply to this email with the following information for anyone on your delegation that wants to volunteer:

1. First name and last name
2. Institution
3. Email address
4. Tshirt size
5. Phone number (preferrably cell phone)

Thank you very much!!

Important Reminders from GLACURH 2008 Conference Staff!
  Thursday, October 23

Hey GLACURH!

Here are a few important things to consider while planning for GLACURH 2008:

1. You should be planning for your spirit events, including roll call, display, and banner. The spirit guidelines information is on our website.

***Roll call music is due OCTOBER 31st! Please burn your music to a CD and mail it to us (postmarked by the due date).***

Mail your roll call music to this address:

Sarah Nagy
801 N. Jordan
Bloomington, IN 47406

2. The GLACURH Philanthropy this year will be raising money for the American Cancer Society. You will turn that in during check-in in the form of a check.

3. When planning for transportation for the conference, please make sure and have arrangements to get from the hotels to campus during the event. We tried to arrange for buses to shuttle people to and from campus, but because of rising fuel costs and the economy, this would have put us far over our budget. We have 4 shuttle vans to transport people in case of emergencies or if you absolutely have no other way of getting where you need to go.

4. Make sure and bring a digital camera to the conference! We are having a scavenger hunt (weather permitting) where you can take pictures of your delegation at various locations on campus.

REMINDER: Program Registration ends tomorrow! Show RHA/NRHH pride by sharing your school's accomplishments, and also gain spirit points if you have a top ten program.

If you have any concerns/questions, please email us at glacurh08@yahoo.com!

  GLACURH 2008 Legislation
  Wednesday, October 22

Hi GLACURH!

During the business meeting at GLACURH 08 we are going to have time to do some legislation.  This means, if there are changes you would like to see or things you would like to have updated in the governing documents you can write legislation to make that change.  If you are wanting to write legislation, I highly recommend you talk to a Regional Board of Directors member because we have a lot of knowledge about GLACURH and its history.

The deadline for legislation is November 7th at 11:59 PM CDT.  Please email all legislation to me at @nacurh.org. I have attached a template for you to format your legislation with. If you have any questions, please let me or any Regional Board member know.

Have a great day GLACURH,

Jess Knox
GLACURH Director

Note from the National Information Center
  Monday, October 20

This is a message from Jordan Shyi, the Director for the NACURH Information Center.

I would like to first start off by thanking you all for giving New York University the opportunity to host the NIC for the next three years and bring about some changes to make the organization as a whole, better and more efficient.  We are incredibly excited about this chance and we look forward to meeting and exceeding your expectations.

I know that many of you as of late, have had issues in dealing with the NIC, especially in regards to affiliations.  I want to take the time now to explain.  One of our initiatives was to keep our activities transparent so that the nation is not left in the dark about what we are doing.  We provide a service to NACURH so NACURH deserves to know what processes are going on.  Unfortunately, we were hit with a streak of bad luck in the past two months.  Our staff, normally comprised of 7 student volunteers and one professional staff advisor, has taken a hit with 4 resignations.  At one point, the office was being operated by only 4 people in total.  We were forced to switch our focus to recruiting and filling the open positions, so that we could better serve your requests.  The process has been long, tedious, and difficult.  We then decided to increase our staff size to 8, based on the high volume of inquiries that come in.  Currently, our staff is building back up and we are operating with 7 people in total, looking to add an additional two more.

Another hindrance we faced was the physical transition of the office.  The move was complicated and many files were lost during the transition.  Without the manpower to devote to searching for the files, we could only make do with what we were able to find in a short period of time.  Therefore, many of you have noticed that the affiliation statuses may not reflect what you originally had when affiliating at NACURH 2008.  If that is the case, we kindly ask you all to assist us by resending the files that have been marked "missing."  Though you may ask if we could find the files, chances are, if we have yet to locate them, we will be unable to in the future.  It will benefit us greatly if you are able to resend any files to nic.affiliations@nacurh.org.  We guarantee that all affiliation statuses will be transferred to the website by this Friday (or Wednesday for SAACURH), as it is conference season and we know many of you need time to gather your materials together.  We ask that you hold your requests for your affiliation status until then so that we can finalize all the information we have.  As of Friday night, you will see the most current and up-to-date statuses.

For all new NCCs or newly affiliating schools, here are the documents that need to be turned in to achieve full affiliation status:

  1. RFI Report.  The guidelines and regulations to the RFI report can be found on nacurh.org.  Here is the summary of what the RFI Report needs:
    • On the cover page, there should be a) your university's name, b) the title of the RFI report, c) the current affiliation year (2008-2009), d) the number of pages the report contains (including the cover page), and e) an abstract that acts as a summary of what the report is about.
    • Also, the report must be a MINIMUM of 5 pages, including the cover page.  Each page must also be labeled with a page number, excluding the cover page.  Therefore, the numbers should begin on the second page of the report, where the content begins.
    • If your school has not been affiliated within the last three years with NACURH, then your university is EXEMPT from writing an RFI report.  We will, however, need an e-mail from you stating such.
    • If you have only an RHA or only an NRHH, you still need to compose an RFI report and send it in to complete affiliation.
    • The RFI report should be sent in in PDF format, not .DOC or .DOCX.
  2. Contact sheet.  The form can be found on the NACURH website.  Download it and fill out the corresponding fields.  E-mail that along with the RFI report.  This can be in any document format.
  3. Affiliation Dues.  We only accept checks or money orders at this time.  The checks should be made out the NACURH Inc and be mailed to NACURH Information Center, 75 Third Avenue, C3 Level, New York, NY 10003.  There are three amounts that the checks should be:  $35 for Associate Schools (those with only a trial membership to NACURH), $85 for Small Schools (those with 1,000 or less on-campus residents), and $110 (those with more than 1,000 on-campus residents).  If you require an invoice, there are updated copies on the website as well, with the new location.  For state schools, if you mail your check, please clarify which campus the check applies to, especially if the state is providing the check and lists all campus locations on the check itself.
Now, the following applies only to schools with an NRHH Chapter:
  1. Contact sheet.  It is the same file as the above-mentioned form.  This one, however, contains information specific to your NRHH Chapter.
  2. Constitution.   We need the most recent and up-to-date copy of your NRHH Chapter Constitution for review and approval.
  3. Members List.  The list should contain all members of your NRHH Chapter as of the date you send it in.
When you send us these files, please title them with your school's name, and what document it is.  For example, "[Insert School Name Here] - RFI Report" or "[Insert School Name Here] - Contact Sheet".  Please refrain from using abbreviations, you would be surprised at how many universities share similar initials.  All files should be e-mailed and all checks should be physically mailed out to us.

If you have any additional questions in regards to affiliations, you can direct them to nic.affiliations@nacurh.org.  For all other inquiries, please e-mail nic.admin@nacurh.org.

We want to apologize for the inconvenience but it is necessary.  Thank you in advance for your understanding, patience, and cooperation.  With your help, the NACURH Information Center will be able to better serve you in the coming weeks, and we promise that once we get back on track, you will see some radical improvements on our behalf.  Our staff is looking forward to meeting all of you at your respective conferences, and we hope that your semesters are going well.

Thank you, once again.

Best wishes,

Jordan Shyi
Director | NACURH Information Center
